North American's P-51 Mustang is one of the most fascinating aircraft of World War II, and countless books have been written about every facet of the Mustang's colorful existence. However, the story of manufacturing the airplane is usually left to be covered in only in the opening chapters of most P-51 books, and there has never been a major work devoted to this important aspect of the airplane's history.
