In Tokaido, players become travelers making their way across ancient Japan along the famous road connecting Kyoto and Edo, now known as Tokyo. The goal is not simply to reach the end, but to make the most memorable journey possible. Along the way, you can admire beautiful landscapes, sample regional cuisine, collect souvenirs, relax in hot springs, and meet interesting people.

Tokaido uses a unique movement system where the traveler furthest behind on the road takes the next turn. On your turn, you may move ahead to any available space, although every traveler must stop at each Inn along the route. Different locations offer different experiences and rewards, encouraging you to build collections and choose the stops that will make your journey the most rewarding.
