Though laid down as an Amagi-class Battlecruiser, IJN Akagi was commissioned as an Aircraft Carrier in late March of 1927. The conversion was to avoid breaking restrictions of the London Naval Treaty. Akagi the "Red Castle" was present at Pearl Harbor, where her torpedo bombers hit US ships Maryland, Pennsylvania and several other ships. Following that, she partook in the Indian Ocean Raid, where she assisted in sinking British ships Cornwall and Dorsettshire. Akagi inevitably met her fate at the battle of Midway, where on June 5th, 1942 she was scuttled after taking significant damage from U.S aircraft. The legacy of Akagi is well remembered, and this Hasegawa kit reflects the legacy of Akagi with a highly detailed representation of the ship, and is great for any collection!
